The
Waiting Game
Lulu had persuaded me into doing Christmas shopping so early
this year. Having done it all in November she’d also wrapped everything!
I’d never before been so organised ahead of Christmas.
And how wonderful it was to know that everything was in place
when I needed to focus instead on scans and hospital appointments during
December.
I had a CT body scan and then a Nuclear bone scan, and then
we played the worst game in the world (again) – The Waiting Game.
Waiting for the appointment with my consultant was a horrendous
time. Going through the daily rituals as a family but with this hanging in the
balance. Trying not to dwell on the worst outcome if the cancer had spread, but
also feeling too scared to hope for the best.
During this time people tried to re-assure me that if the
results were bad I’d have been called straight away. I never understood how
people felt they were qualified to put your mind at rest when they had not a
clue. This input didn’t work for me at all – I knew by now that you NEVER try
to second guess cancer.
My first book – ‘See the Colour in the Clouds’ tells the
story of my first journey with breast cancer, when my daughters were just 8yrs
and 5yrs, and how they played such an important role in my recovery.
